Our Mission
In response to the growing number of unhoused individuals on the streets of New Haven and the increasing issue of food insecurity, we were inspired to create Sira2Go — a food and basic needs program built on joy, care, and dignity.
Through ongoing interactions with our unhoused neighbors in the Fair Haven community, we quickly realized that food was only one part of their struggle. In the early days, we began distributing socks and gently-used clothing, small but impactful gestures that met pressing needs. These acts sparked the idea to offer more — leading to the introduction of hygiene kits.
We first launched our hygiene kit giveaway at the Fair Haven Library. Although participation was initially low, this experience helped us learn and adapt. In April, we shifted the distribution to the Wilson Library, where it proved to be a more accessible and well-utilized location for those we serve.
Looking ahead
I envision Sira2Go growing into a major nonprofit organization that reaches across New Haven, not only fighting food insecurity but also providing essential items to improve the overall quality of life for vulnerable residents. Over the next 12 months, our goal is to expand the hygiene kit program by partnering with libraries in high-need communities such as The Hill, Dixwell, Newhallville, and Fair Haven.
Our mission is rooted in compassion and community. We believe that every person deserves access to the basic necessities that preserve dignity and health. The unhoused population is disproportionately affected by malnutrition and illness. By focusing our services on this community, we aim to foster positive social change, create a more equitable city, and support individuals on their path to stability and wellness.Through our two core community-based programs — addressing food insecurity and providing hygiene essentials — Sira2Go is committed to being a consistent, caring presence in the lives of New Haven’s most vulnerable.
